Marco Van Basten began his career with Ajax and was three times top scorer in the Dutch League. In his last year with Ajax he won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1987.
After moving to AC Milan he was voted European Footballer of the year in 1988 and 1989 and again in 1992, to equal the record for most wins.
He scored a spectacular winning goal when the Dutch team won the 1988 European Championship
He won the European Cup EC1 with AC Milan in 1989, 1990 and 1994 (he didn't play that season though)
On August 17th, 1995 he quit soccer after a more than two years attempted recovery from a surgery to his right ankle.
