Guidelines for GAANN Fellowship Program
The GAANN Fellowships are funded by the US Department of Education and are provided
for training doctoral students who are interested in pursuing careers in research and/or
teaching.
BENEFITS
- Stipend: The total stipend based on Federally defined `need' , often in the range of $15,000-$18,000 for the nine months
of an academic year.
- Fees: All educational fees and tuition
- Book/Research Allowance: Approximately $300-$500 per fellow for research support
- Research support: Depending on availability of funds,
modest levels of support may be
available for obtaining software,
equipment and similar research or educational
enhancements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching Experience
- one quarter of teaching assistantship in an undergraduate class (typically not in the fellowship year)
- development of educational material for an undergraduate or graduate class
The time commitment of these activities, together, is expected to be approximately 10 hours per week,
for each of the 3 quarters of the academic year.
