The annual meeting of our PSE work will be held on August 20 in the Engineering Gateway conference room EG-S4211 at the University of California, Irvine (picture at left). Donald Dabdub of UCI is making the local arrangements at UCI.

We will have our technical meeting in the same conference room on Monday August 19. The technical meeting will start at 9:00AM on Monday, and the NSF participation (Kamal Abdali and Rich Hersh) will start at about the same time on Tuesday and continue to 5pm.
In case you want to come on Saturday to take advantage of low fares and to enjoy Newport Beach, we have made reservations at the Sheraton, Newport Beach, for Saturday through Tuesday night (August 17 through 20).
The address of the Sheraton is: Sheraton Newport Beach Hotel, 4545 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach, CA. If you drive from the airport take Airport Way North, go 0.7 miles to MacArthur Blvd, take MacArthur Blvd South, go 0.8 miles. Your destination is on the right.
The hotel is a few miles from Orange County airport, and you can get a shuttle to it from the airport or take a cab. There are shuttles from the hotel to UCI. The hotel costs $84 per night on the corporate rate. Mention the PSE conference when you make reservations and make sure that you get the appropriate rate. (Hotels in the area are up to $300 per night during this season, so make sure that the price is right.) The hotel phone number is: 714-833-0570. You can also fly into Los Angeles International and take a shuttle to the Sheraton. This takes about 75 minutes.
There are many interesting activities at this time at Laguna Beach including the Sawdust Festival and Pageant of the Masters. The Sawdust Festival is an artists market and is showcased near the beach in Laguna. The Pageant of the Masters is a unique representation of masterpiece paintings except that the paintings are enacted by real actors who remain immobile for hours; I am told it is worth seeing. If you are interested in this you may want to call TicketMaster down in Laguna.
Disneyland is about 45 minutes away. Diane will get you additional information if you ask her.
